Mannitol
|
Properties:
white crystalline powder, smell-less, sweet taste,
easily dissolved in water, insoluble in alcohol and ether.
Main Application:
In pharmaceutical industry: mannitol injection can reduce
both intracranial pressure and intraocular pressure, eliminate
hydrocephalus and promote urination. It also can prevent blood
pressure rising, arteriosclerosis, meningitis and have certain
effect on treating diabetes. Additionally, it can be used as
subsidiary material to produce medicines.
In microbiology: mannitol is a fine culture medium for some
micro-organism
In synthetic chemical industry: mannitol is one of the important
raw materials in producing fatty acid ester, mannitol polyther
and rigid mannitol ester.
In food industry: It is usually used as food additives.
In other industries: mannitol is widely used in agricultural
and textile field as mollient and emulsifier.
